The Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) is a private, state-recognized university of applied sciences and was founded in Bielefeld in 2000 by the Kreishandwerkerschaft Paderborn, the Handwerkskammer Ostwestfalen-Lippe zu Bielefeld and the Westdeutsche Handwerkskammertag. Shareholder today is the Foundation Education & Craft from Paderborn.
The FHM offers full-time study programs, part-time job offers, distance learning programs and dual study models developed in collaboration with industry. In addition, in cooperation with chambers of crafts, a trial has been developed, which combines the classical vocational training in a craft profession and the master qualification with a scientific Bachelor study.
The new study model TOP-UP enables a shortened study by the crediting and recognition of advance payments from an apprenticeship.
The degrees at the FHM were converted in 2010 to Bachelor and Master degrees. All programs are in the accreditation agency FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) or AHPGS (accreditation agency in the field of health and social affairs) accredited.
