The Dortmund University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 14,000 students. It is represented at three locations (Campus Emil-Figge-Strasse, Campus Max-Ophüls-Platz, Campus Sonnenstraße) in Dortmund. The University of Applied Sciences is divided into eight subject areas: Architecture, Design, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Social Sciences, Business and Information Technology.
University IT is responsible for the provision, operation and organization of the central data processing and data communication systems as well as their network infrastructure. It coordinates university-wide network, system and software usage as well as IT security. An extensive range of counselling services supports students and their families in the IT environment.
Starting from 1893 the educational establishment firmierte under the title "royal mechanical engineering schools to Dortmund" and consisted of the three departments:
