The Bochum University of Applied Sciences ( Bochum ) is the second largest university in Bochum with around 7,000 students and around 475 employees (both from February 2013). It was founded in 1971 in Bochum district Querenburg as a college Bochum and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Ruhr University Bochum. The State University of Applied Sciences since September 1, 2007, is Bochum University and used in the external representation of the addition Bochum University of Applied Sciences.
One of the largest projects of the university is the Solarcar Team, which exists since 2002 at the university. The team consists of about 30 students from the college. All departments can participate in the project. The first solar vehicle was built in 1998-2001 in cooperation with London South Bank University.
In 2002, the first car HansGo! Was developed and built in Bochum! completed. Since 2003, Bochum University has participated in the biennial World Solar Challenge, which ranked fifth in its first year. 2007 saw the launch of a new vehicle at the Australian WSC, SolarWorld No. 1who reached fourth place.
