The College of the German Federal Bank (HDB) is a university located in the castle Hachenburg in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The Deutsche Bundesbank acquired the castle in 1974 in the foreclosure proceedings of Schloss Hachenburg GmbH, which wanted to rebuild the castle until its own bankruptcy into a hotel. The Deutsche Bundesbank then continued the conversion in order to build a training centre there. In 1976, the lesson could begin, but the construction work on the lower castle lasted until 1982.
The university is a legally dependent institution of the Deutsche Bundesbank. The state recognition on March 19, 1980, by the Ministry of Culture of Rhineland-Palatinate. By mid-2012, the name of the institution "University of Applied Sciences of the Deutsche Bundesbank" was.
Organs of the university are the rectorate, the Senate and a practice council.
The university trains for the senior service of the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Each year on April 1 and October 1, approximately 80 new civil service candidates will be recruited (up to 8 to the BaFin), who will spend 22 months studying at the university during their three-year training, while the rest will be internships in the branches, headquarters and the central office of the Bundesbank and BaFin.
The program concludes with the "Bachelor of Science - Central Banking / Central Banking". About 20% of the lectures are held in English. At the end of the studies, a practice unit is also possible at another institution in or outside of Germany.
