The University Geisenheim University (also: Hochschule Geisenheim, abbreviation: HGU) is a state university of the state of Hesse based in Geisenheim in the Rheingau. It was founded on January 1, 2013, as a new type of university according to recommendations of the Science Council. previous facilities were the Faculty Geisenheim RheinMain University and the Research Institute, which were combined into the new university Geisenheim. It has nearly 1400 students (as of WS 2015/16) in eight bachelor's and nine master's programs.
The Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences currently offers nine bachelor's and nine master's degree programs, and further degree programs are being planned.
In the field of viticulture, the bachelor degree programs "Viticulture and Oenology" and "International Wine Management" are offered with a Bachelor of Science degree. Building on this, the master's programs "Oenology", "Wine Management", "Viticulture, Enology and Wine Management" and the internationally oriented "Vinifera EuroMaster", all with the academic degree as Master of Science, are offered. Parallel to the Bachelor degree program "International Wine Business", a similar study program under the name "International Wine Business" will be offered in English. In the beverage technology, there is the bachelor's and master's degree program "Beverage Technology" (Bachelor of Science and Master of Science). New from the winter semester 2015/2016 is the six-semester bachelor program " Food Safety " with the degree of a Bachelor of Science.
The research facilities and projects of the Geisenheim Research Institute are being continued by the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences and increasingly linked to the study areas and programs.
