The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences is one of the three universities of applied science under the state sponsorship and supervision of the Ministry of Education of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The academic facility, located in the west of the city of Neubrandenburg, in the immediate vicinity of the Tollensesee, was founded in 1991 with two departments. In the winter semester of 1991/1992, it took on 161 students. It is a campus high school with about 2,170 students in 14 study programs (winter semester 2013/14).
About one-third of the students are enrolled in Social Work. Other important subjects are agriculture, food technology, health and nursing sciences, education, geomatics, as well as landscape and environmental sciences.
