Hochschule Schmalkalden

The Schmalkalden University is based in the Thuringian Schmalkalden and was established in its current form 1,991th It is thus one of the younger German universities. Her international name is HS Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.

1902 to 1918 was in Schmalkalden the "Royal School for ironmongery and steel industry Schmalkalden", from 1919 to 1949, the State Technical College. During the GDR period, the engineering school for mechanical engineering Schmalkalden existed from 1950 to 1990. The Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences follows these traditions. In its current form, the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden was founded on October 1, 1991.

The Hochschule Schmalkalden has five faculties and offers a total of 31-degree programs (15 Bachelor, 7 Master, 9 extra-occupational Bachelor and Master programs). Around 2,500 students are currently enrolled at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and are looked after by 65 professors.

The campus is American style, meaning all facilities are relatively close together and are not located in the city. There are various teaching and research rooms on the campus, most of which are arranged according to faculty and are assigned the letters A to M. In addition to the cafeteria, there is a library, a student office, a gymnasium, two hostels and a student club on campus.
