The University of Wismar is a state university of applied sciences in the Hanseatic city of Wismar in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was founded on May 9, 1908, as an engineering academy Wismar. The college has three faculties in economics, engineering and design with 34 undergraduate and 37 master's degrees. 8406 students are enrolled at the university. 433 employees are employed at the university, including 133 professors, 110 teachers and scientific staff and six apprentices.
The university offers a wide range of on-campus and distance learning courses. Essentially, however, it is a typical campus high school, as most of the faculties are located on the closed campus in Wismar. The largest branch is the maritime area in Rostock district Warnemünde dar. A smaller field office exists in Malchow on the island of Poel.
The University of Wismar has been active in research and technology transfer for many years. There are offers for companies and public institutions as well as for members of the university. The research focuses in particular on computational engineering and mechatronics, IT systems and media as well as surface engineering, construction and planning, maritime transport, innovation and design of products and technological processes, renewable raw materials and teaching-learning.
In addition to these research areas, which were underpinned by various projects and measures, the following research topics have been established in the research landscape: Historic building renovation and modern building design, perception and consequences for design planning, e-learning, security in data transfer ( Internet and intranet ) and Artificial Intelligence. In addition, the development of machinery and machine components, plastics technology and nanotechnology as well as international quality management systems and networks. In the future, they will be integrated into the research priorities and/or develop into independent focal points.
