About Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT)

Illinois Institute of Technology was a result of the merger between Lewis Institute and Armour Institute in 1940. It is a private research-based university that is located in Illinois, Chicago. The university has wide-ranging programmes like engineering, industrial technology, business, communication, design, psychology, architecture, science and law.

There are various colleges under this university and each college focuses on their own subject of study. In total, IIT has 5 campuses- Armour College of Engineering, College of Architecture, Chicago-Kent College of Law, College of Science, Lewis College of Human Sciences, Institute of Design, Stuart School of Business and School of Applied Technology.

IIT was ranked as the most sustainable university in Illinois, 2010 by Princeton Review and the IIT campus was said to be amongst the 200 most important architectural works in the U.S by the American Institute of Architects. The Mies Campus Building is the main campus, which has several facilities from athletic buildings to sororities. It covers a huge area of 120 acres and has a great infrastructure. It is only a few minutes away from Chicago downtown which is a very good advantage.

The institute focuses on applied research-based learning and the infrastructure facilitates the same. The Law, Design and Business Institute campuses are located in the downtown, in a good and respectable locality. While the sprawling Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus, stretched across an area of 5-acres is located in the suburban Southwest region of the city. The colleges of the university are spread across Chicago and have all the necessary means that are needed for a good education.

Illinois Institute of Technology has several athletic teams, called Scarlet Hawks that includes men's baseball, soccer, cross country, swimming, basketball, tennis, and track and field while the women teams are in the field of basketball, soccer, lacrosse, cross country, swimming, tennis and volleyball. It has a well-developed and quality sports centre for its students.
