The Jade University is a state university in northwestern Lower Saxony with study locations in Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg and Elsfleth. The university offers 39 Bachelor - and 13 master - degree programs in six departments, and has approximately 7,600 enrolled students and over 500 teachers and staff. The Jade University sees itself as a modern university with a maritime focus and engineering and economics courses.
President of the Jade University is since 1 September 2015 Manfred Weisensee.
Jade University was founded on September 1st, 2009. It emerged from the former University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland /Wilhelmshaven.
The establishment of the university was based on the recommendation of the structural commission "Future Development of the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven", the Lower Saxony state government a defusion of only merged in 2000 FH Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven in the new colleges of Wilhelmshaven / Oldenburg / Elsfleth and Fachhochschule Emden / Leer suggested.
The founding president of the Jade Hochschule was Elmar Schreiber, who previously worked at the Hochschule Bremen. The term of office of the founding president ended on 31 August 2015. On 1 September 2015 Manfred Weisensee succeeded him in the position.
