Kharkiv Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture (HIMESG) was one of the first agricultural agricultural engineering institutes, created during collectivization by the Decree of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR dated July 23, 1930, No. 40/237, based on the branches of mechanization and electrification of Kharkiv and Poltava agricultural institutes.
Kharkiv State Technical University of Agriculture (KDTUSG), established on the basis of HIMESG by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated April 20, 1994, No. 244 - became the only and the leading university in Ukraine engineering and technical agricultural profile of IV level of accreditation.
In 2004, taking into account the general state and international recognition of the results of the work of the CDUU, its significant contribution to the development of national education and science, the order of the President of Ukraine and the order of the university government was granted the status of national and the name of Academician Petro Vasilyenko.
