The Maine College of Art (MECA) is a private art college in Portland, Maine. Founded in 1882, the Maine College of Art is the oldest arts educational institution in Maine. MECA is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), a consortium of thirty-six art schools in the United States, and is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.
MECA offers Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art (MFA), and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees. It also offers the Salt Graduate Certificate in Documentary Studies and continuing studies programs.
There are 454 undergraduate students and 58 graduate students. Roughly 32% of MECA students come from Maine and 68% are from the New England area outside Maine.
