The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) is a university for applied sciences (HAW) with locations in Friedberg, Gießen and Wetzlar with the field offices in Bad Hersfeld, Bad Wildungen, Bad Vilbel, Biedenkopf, Limburg a der Lahn and Frankenberg (Eder).
It was founded in 1971 as a University of Applied Sciences, making it one of the younger Hessian universities. With 18,136 students (2017), it is the largest of the five state universities of applied sciences in Hesse, The TH Mittelhessen is, after the colleges in Cologne, Munich and Hamburg, the fourth largest university of applied sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to its name, the university has the international name University of Applied Sciences.
For the winter semester 1986/87, the computer science program was included in the program for the first time. At the same time, the department "Mathematics, Science and Data Processing" was divided into the departments of "Mathematics, Science and Computer Science" (casting) and "Mathematics, Science and Data Processing" (Friedberg).
With the ZeVA-accredited master program "International Marketing", the University of Applied Sciences Mittelhessen offers one of the first economics marketing postgraduate courses in English in English.
Increasingly, the TH Mittelhessen is also involved in the field of extra-occupational scientific training. To intensify its work, in 2007 the university founded the HZW - the HZW - and set up a further education centre at Altenberg Monastery in Solms-Oberbiel, which was relocated to the Gießen campus in 2011.
The University of Applied Sciences Mittelhessen is a member of the Universities of Applied Sciences Hesse.
