Weissensee Kunsthochschule Berlin

The Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee ( own spelling: Weissensee art academy Berlin ) is a university for the training of artists of different fields and was founded in 1946 in Berlin-Weißensee. A special feature is the compulsory basic art studies for all students, which is based on the tradition of the Bauhaus.

The university was founded in 1946 by metal sculptor Otto Sticht in Berlin Art School of the North founded. In 1947, the state recognition as an art college by the Soviet military administration and renamed the College of Applied Arts. In 1950, Mart Stam became director of the art college and founded the interdisciplinary foundation study. Stam remained a director of the college until 1952. In 1953, the University of Applied Arts was renamed the College of Fine and Applied Arts and in 1969 the Kunsthochschule Berlin.

Since the entry into force of the Unification Treaty in 1990, she calls herself Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee ( proper idiom: Weissensee art academy berlin ). With the decision of the Berlin Senate to expand the art college in October 1991, the number of students increased from about 250 initially to double, later to about 800.
