Far Eastern State Transport University (FESTU) is one of the most effective education & innovation centres in the Russian Far East. We train professionals for a very wide range of economic sectors. Over 75 years of FESTU history is inseparable from the history of the Russian nation.
FESTU is among few Far Eastern higher education institutes that implement a system of continuous education. University can also offer opportunities for further education.
Nowadays FESTU offers 303 education programs of higher professional education, secondary vocational education, postgraduate studies, vocational training and further education. The amount of education services, offered by FESTU, is constantly growing. For the past 5 years, FESTU opened several majors that are in demand in the region: "Complex Information Securing for Automated Systems", "Oil & Gas Business" and "Fire Safety". "Customs" major was officially opened in 2013.
FESTU 15 main programs of higher professional education were acknowledged as the best in Russia according to an expert survey of "The Best Education Programs in Innovation Russia" project. Another 5 programs were acclaimed by experts as the best education programs based on Federal-State Education Standards. 3 Bachelor programs: "Psychology", "Power Engineering" and "Construction"; 2 Specialist Degree Programs: "Rolling Stock" (majors "Railroad Cars", "Locomotives", "Electric Rolling Stock"), Railway Traffic Support Systems (majors "Automation and Remote Control of Railway Transport", "Telecommunication Systems and Networks of Railway Transport" and "Railway Power Supply").
There are over 23000 students studying in FESTU today, with over a 1000 lecturers (60% have scientific degrees).
University implements large-scale research work aimed at complex development of the Russian Far East transport system. It combines over 30 fields of research in transport, construction, power engineering, physics, mathematics, material science, information science and many others, that are of great importance not only for railway industry but for other industrial sectors as well. FESTU scientists contributed greatly to the development and improvement of the railway industry. Their research projects are focused on maintenance and diagnostics of artificial structures, construction issues in cold climate areas in Russia (Far Northlands and Far East region), environment protection, construction & maintenance of railways on permafrost soils.
