Krasnoyarsk State Medical University

The origin of the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University was directly connected with one of the most tragic episodes in the history of the country - the blockade of Leningrad. The history of the university dates back to November 21, 1942, when, according to the order of the All-Union Committee for Higher School Affairs under the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR and the People's Commissariat of Health, the Voronezh Dental Institute evacuated to Krasnoyarsk City, parts of the 1st Leningrad and 2nd Leningrad Medical Institutes, the Leningrad Pediatric and Leningrad Dental Institute in a Krasnoyarsk Medical Institute.

The formation of a new university took place intense conditions: there was a bloody war, the front lacked not only shells and mines, tanks and aircraft, but also doctors.

The accelerated organization of the institute was assisted by local authorities, operating institutes, technical schools, hospitals, industrial enterprises not only of the Krasnoyarsk Territory but also of other regions and territories of Siberia. Only thanks to the nationwide comprehensive assistance, the created university in a matter of days was provided with educational clinical bases, necessary equipment, reagents, teaching aids and began to prepare medical personnel for the front. Its first graduates — several dozen doctors who received medical diplomas in Siberia in the war years, went to the front in six months, saved lives on the battlefields, nursed wounded soldiers in hospitals and sandbags. Many of those who graduated from high school in the subsequent years of the Great Patriotic War, also began their independent professional path at the front, in partisan detachments.
